What we repair
Doors give plenty of warning before they fail. Below is what we get called out for most, on aluminium and timber alike.
A door that won't close properly is sometimes the house having moved, taking the frame out of square with it. More often the hinges have stretched or snapped.
We replace any kind of door hinge on either aluminium or wooden doors, and check the door is hanging true afterwards rather than leaving it to bind again.
Handles and locks that no longer work get repaired or replaced, on both wooden and aluminium doors.
If the existing lock has been discontinued we find another product that works in its place, so you're not replacing a perfectly good door because of the hardware in it.
Cracked, broken or missing door rubbers get replaced. Where the existing seals are still sound but have popped out of the channel, we refit them.
Neglected seals cost you weather tightness, and once water is getting past the door it starts causing damage elsewhere.
Bi-folds that take a lot of traffic wear through their runners and guides, and sometimes the hinges along with them.
It isn't always the hardware. House movement can pull the frame out of square, in which case the house may need jacking slightly or the frame simply squaring back up. We handle all of it.
As sliders age the nylon wheels wear. They either snap or develop a flat edge, which makes the door bump along the track — or stop sliding altogether.
On some doors the nylon wheels can be replaced on their own. On others the entire wheel carriage has to come out. We supply and install any brand of ranch slider wheel or carriage, and find a suitable substitute where the original is obsolete.

Rotten jambs usually come from condensation or rain getting in over time. How far it's spread decides the fix.
Where the rot is contained we cut out the affected area and let in new timber. Where it isn't salvageable, we carefully remove the door, check the framing of the opening is dressed with flashing tape, fit new wooden jambs and reinstall the door.
If there's a problem here we haven't mentioned, ask anyway — there's a good chance we can sort it.

Almost always. That's the nylon wheels wearing flat or breaking up. Depending on the door, the wheels alone can be replaced, or the whole carriage comes out and gets swapped. Either way it's a fraction of the cost of a new slider.
Sometimes. Runners and guides wear out on doors that get used constantly. But the frame itself can be out of square from the house moving, and no amount of new hardware fixes that. We check which one it is before replacing anything.
Yes. Obsolete hardware is normal on older joinery. We find a product that works in the existing preparation, which is far cheaper than replacing the door to suit a modern lock.
Yes. We do supply and installation of new doors alongside the repair work, so a replacement doesn't mean finding a second trade.
